last two days of Glory

Boy this sure has been a rough week.....I been clearing brush and cutting vines on a piece of company property....and I'm slap wore out......
the whole time I've been thinking about this last two days of the deer gun season.....and wouldn't ya know it ...it looks as though the good lord is going to bless us with the right kind of weather and moon phase
reports have been coming in that the bucks are on the move big time...
on Versus.com the rut report shows that Alabama's bucks are starting the rut...
I've got all my scents and calls stuck in my fanny pack....I got two days of hunting clothes ready to go...and I got a prayer to say for a good buck to stick his chest out of the bushes just far enough to get off a shot...
my brother went two days ago and said he didn't see a thing....but ...this balmy weather I feel had everything to do with that,,,we got a nice cold front coming in and that should put them back on the trail for hot does...
I got two bucks recorded this season and one more to go....praying that I
get to fill my buck quota this time around....this has been the best season for me in three years...and praying to finish it off with a bang...
Good luck yall......

welp....things could have been better.....but
Ididn't get out of Mobile in time....got to te woods just enough time to do a sat afternoon hunt.....went straight to a pretty hard wood bottom...saw some fresh rubs....and this one rub was huge....whatever buck was rubbing on this small oak about just big enough to get your hands wrapped around...is a big daddy.....
wind was wrong ..didn't see a thing....but it's just nice to be in the woods
Now Sunday was a different story....
get in my stand looking up and down an old logging road....with a food plot at the end of it......got my deer scents put out...wind is switching from north west and to the northeast....
mostly cloudy at first....but when that sun popped out....the deer went crazy....
I watched doe after doe....cross back and forth on that logging road...they kept me in bird dog mode the whole time....never did see a buck though...
I think the does smelled the estrous and thought ...should we be in heat now...
I decided to move to another area...this time.. a spot I sit in a chair back up in the woods a bit overlooking a food plot....I got things trimmed up a little bit so I can see in the woods a ways......
Iget my deer scents put out and get in that chair.....about 1 hour goes by and this dad gummed cow horn strolls in....he winded the estrous....then a few minutes later this yearling eight pointer comes the the edge of the plot and looks at the cowhorn like do you mind if I get a whiff
the cowhorn lays his ears down and looks at the yearling 8 pointer like
you fixing to get a butt whoopin boy.... the yearling spins around and trots back into the woods....
a few minutes later Ihear something scampering to the edge of the plot....the cowhorn is on alert... Ifigure this has got to be a big boy ....welp
a stinkin dad gummed coyote charges out into the plot ...the cowhorn takes a swipe at him and spins the coyote around and the coyote runs off.
the cowhorn then trots out of there....seconds later a whole pack of yotes run through the plot in the same direction the cowhorn ran to.....
everything got quiet then.....and stayed that way.....
me and JJ got some varmit huntin to do.....ruined my dad gummed hunt....
I did enjoy getting to see so many deer though......and I think for where me and JJ hunt...the bucks my be trailing the does....but the does aren't in estrous yet.......
another one of them years where they are almost in the rut ...and the season is over......
oh well...on the bright side of things...that yearling 8 pointer is going to be a hoss in about 4 years......also...they're supposed to cut timber in the big pines this month.....next season should be awsome....
welp...maybe next year me and JJ will hit it right and bag one of them brutes that is already there come next season....at least I got two bucks in the freezer...that should hold me till then.....
now it's time for fishing......

Wow, sounds like a great end to the season. I love to hunt when things keep happening to keep your interest up. Sounds like the coyotes need to be taught a lesson

To see that many doe's moving about but no bucks at least trailing them...
I knew right then they wern't in heat....it was sweet to catch them moving about though....
The big pine stands are way to thick to hunt the yotes....but I figure me and JJ can get close to the plots ....put out one of them battery powered thingys with a furry tail on it....use a squirrle or rabbit in distress call and
get em to come in close enough to give em lead poisoning.
we have to do it soon though....or else I'm afraid coming fawns will be breakfast ...lunch or dinner....
Ithink one of our problems is some of the neighbors have been dumping gut piles on the road right close to where we hunt....buzzards is one thing but feeding a hungry pack of yotes is another ...

They been dumping the gut piles and hide right at the edge of the main road .... were going to have to get em in the plots..... or catch em on the logging roads...
